Do not confuseresignandretire. If someoneresignsfrom their job, they leave it after saying that they do not want to do it any more. You canresignfrom your job at any age, and perhaps start another job soon afterwards. When someoneretires, they leave their job and stop working, often because they have reached the age when they can get a pension. When professional sportsmen and women stop playing sport as their job, you can also say that theyretire, even if they are fairly young.
